There are many reasons for our rapid growth however the dedication and commitment of every franchise owner to build the single best brand in the industry is the prime driving force behind our success.
Q: What is your selection process?
The selection process is best described as a series of "gates" a candidate must successfully pass through prior to final decision. Whether or not a candidate is ultimately approved for a market or territory is dependent on a range of factors. Traditional metrics such as financial capacity and core industry experience are weighted of course however we place a very high level of value on cultural fit as well. As a result our selection criteria are highly selective.
Q: How much does it cost?

Total startup costs as defined in a range in our Franchise Disclosure Document:

  • Regional Developer Franchise total investment necessary to begin operations is between $168,820 and $363,85 5 including Regional Developer franchise fees of between $164,500 and $344,500.
  • Single Unit Franchise total investment necessary to begin operations is between $84,600 and $162,700 in the US and between $96,000 and $162,700 in Canada. Total investment depends on factors such as current operating structure and resources, suitable vehicles etc.
  • Included in these total costs are the Franchise licensing fees of $53,500 in the US and $73,650 in Canada.
Q: What territories are available?

Q: Do I get an exclusive territory?
Regional developer territories are sold on an exclusive basis however it is not uncommon to have multiple single unit locations successfully operating in the same market due to population density, market demand, operating success and other factors.
Q: How big is my territory?
Every regional developer territory and single unit market territory is unique and the actual operating radius depends on a number of factors. Contact us for specific details of the market you are interested in.
Q: Do you guarantee sales leads?
Alair Homes does not guarantee sales leads however our dedicated head office marketing team works tirelessly to assist you in driving new lead opportunities on an ongoing basis.
Q: What else do I have to pay for beyond my franchise fee?
Additional start up costs are outlined in detail in our Franchise Disclosure document however will include items such as computer, vehicle, vehicle wrap, business licenses and bonding if/as required, professional fees, insurance and other various start up supplies and costs.
Q: How much experience do I have to have as a homebuilder?
We are looking for franchise owners that can demonstrate a high level of knowledge and skill required to operate a successful construction business however there is no single measurement we use to determine whether or not you qualify. A typical single unit franchise owner has three or more year’s construction experience. If you feel you are qualified and can demonstrate a successful track record in this industry, we would like to speak to you.

Initial term is 10 years with two additional renewable periods of 10 years for a total possible term of 30 years

We do not build on speculation. 100% of our projects are managed using our Client Control methodology which greatly reduces the operating and financial risks commonly associated with building on speculation.

Client Control™ is the contract method we created and is the only contract method we use in all of our projects regardless of size and scope. In its simplest terms, Client Control™ is a hybrid of Cost-Plus + Fixed Price with 100% transparency. Q: Can I resell my franchise?
Yes, you can resell your Alair Homes franchise. Certain terms and restrictions apply.
Q: Can I own more than one franchise?
Yes, provided you can demonstrate the ability to successfully operate more than one Alair Homes unit without sacrificing the integrity of our brand or reducing client satisfaction. Certain terms and restrictions apply.
Q: Can I purchase an existing operating Alair franchise?
Yes. If an existing Alair Homes franchise is currently available for sale.
Q: Is this an owner/operator business or can this be an absent owner, investment focused business?
Alair Homes requires its owners to actively participate in the operations of their unit(s).
Q: How long does it take to open and start taking on clients?
This will overwhelmingly depend on you. Many franchisees bring their current pipeline with them to create a seamless cut-over. Other times, there may be overflow business in the pipeline from a Regional Partner or other single unit that you can participate in although we do not guarantee this to ever be the case. Regardless, most of our franchisees are actively managing real projects within the first 90 days of their business opening; often sooner.
Q: Do I have to buy lots? How do you acquire land?
No. Alair Homes does not build on speculation and therefore does not require any purchasing of lots or land. Some of our franchise partners participate in investment opportunities however this is not a requirement to be an Alair Homes franchisee.
Q: Do I need a physical office space?
No. You do not need to open a physical office space. In fact, we recommend you launch your business from your home office if this is practical for you. As your Alair business grows you may find that opening an office space would benefit you however we do not mandate that you ever open an office.
Q: Can I use my current suppliers and sub trades or do have to use Alair's?
Yes, we encourage you to bring your existing relationships with you. As long as they are able to move to operate in the Alair structure. Commonly, we experience that sub-trades and suppliers view Alair’s Client Care system as a dramatic improvement to what is commonly found in the marketplace protecting their interests as well as our clients.
Q: I have invested a lot of money in my current renovation company, but would like to grow to the next level. In your opinion is Alair able to help me grow to that next level?
Many of our current franchise owners were in that same position when they chose to join Alair Homes. Overwhelmingly, the reason they chose to do this was because they recognized they could eliminate their growth ceiling by leveraging the Alair system and network.
Q: How does Alair find quality sub trades? Is there a validation process?
Yes, reference checking and past project references are part of our sub-trade qualification process. As the owner of your local Alair Franchise you will be responsible for finding and maintaining your sub-trade base.
Q: Can I build in someone else's area?
We protect our franchise owner’s right to operate in their market without fear of another Alair franchise competing with them. However, it is not uncommon for more than one unit to work together in any particular area to exploit sales opportunities and value to all parties. In any case, these arrangements are subject to approval from the regional partner and any participating unit in the territory.
Q: Is there a “HOW - TO” manual for building a house or for renovations?
Alair Homes provides a highly structured set of processes and systems for managing our projects from initial design through final construction however it is the skill of the Alair Partner and Project Managers who ensure best practices are carried out while maintaining the highest level of client satisfaction. In addition to online scheduling and selection tools, construction process is controlled and managed through an extremely detailed step by step checklist process for every scope of work.
Q: Can I call any office/partner for support or do I always have to call my regional developer?
One of the greatest sources of value that all Alair Partners enjoy is the availability and openness of everyone, at every level, in the company to support each other. Beyond regional meetings and weekly all-partner calls, it is common for one Partner to contact another for guidance and insight on a particular need or opportunity due to expertise in that area. It is a source of pride for us at Alair Homes and one of our strongest competitive advantages.
Q: Does Alair have better buying power because it is an international company?
Yes, as our brand continues to develop into new territories and our total product buys increase, our buying power with regional, national and International suppliers grows. As a result of that gross product buy each partner enjoys better bottom line pricing as a result. In custom contracting however, many of our specialized local contractors do not supply product or services to multiple Alair locations and as such their pricing will not be subject to Alair’s buying power advantage.
Q: Is all marketing done by head office?
Alair’s head office marketing and branding staff provides a vast array of marketing and sales support that increases your visibility and access to prospective clients. However the most successful franchise owners recognize they hold a great deal of responsibility to be engaged with their local market partners and best buyer prospects to create new opportunities to their business unit through their own efforts. Similarly, many franchisees choose to invest additional funds on their own to accelerate their sales growth.
Q: Does it make sense to buy an Alair franchise if I don’t live in a strong market?
Defining a strong or weak market is a very subjective thing however Alair Homes is achieving 100% success rate in every market we operate. At any given time, and in any given market, there will always be winners and losers and every franchise owner at Alair Homes is absolutely committed to ensuring they provide more value to more people than any competitor possibly could. We believe this is the cornerstone to achieving market leader position and provides an unfair competitive advantage during any economic cycle.
